How much does a logo cost? (UK)

Now that you’ve decided to start your business and have an appropriate dog walking business name for it, the next logical step is to design a logo to use on vehicle signwriting, your social media accounts, business cards and even branded clothing.

But how much does a logo cost and can you design it yourself?

Logos can cost anything from being free and doing it yourself, to £1000’s if you use an established marketing company and high-end designers.

The good news is that there are many logo designers available whatever your budget.

Fiverr is a website where self-employed people offer their services for a fixed fee for a variety of things, including logo design.

How does Fiverr work?

Sellers offer ‘gigs’ for a fee and buyers select the gigs they need, communicate with the seller to ensure they get exactly what they need and then pay for the gig via the Fiverr website.

So if you’re looking for a logo designer you would search ‘logo design’, add some parameters to your search such as maximum budget, or if you wanted to work with someone in the same country/timezone as you, or if you only wanted to use higher rated sellers with a good track record.

You would then communicate with your seller to explain what sort of logo you’re after and most sellers provide a free revision/adjustment in case it wasn’t quite right the first time.

Fiverr is an excellent site to bookmark for the future as it has sellers offering many services to small businesses which will save you time and quickly provide a solution for you.

Sellers include website design, social media account management, copywriting (where a professional writes an advert for you) and even video editing if you decide to run a youtube channel showcasing your walks for marketing purposes.

Create your own logo for free

If you have the time, and a creative streak then why not create your own logo?

Following some simple rules will ensure your logo stands out wherever you use it.

  1. Try and stick to 2 or 3 colours. This will ensure it remains simple and will make vinyl for sign writing, or embroidery on clothing cheaper because you’re using fewer colours. Coolors is a great website to play around with colour combinations.
  1. Choose the correct font and size.  Once your logo has been scaled up to go on the side of your van any wording needs to be easily readable as you’re driving past so make the font choice clean and simple. My pet hate (pun intended) is any type of script font. It’s really hard to read sometimes and doesn’t scale well.
  1. Keep it simple.  A design that’s overly fussy or intricate won’t look as good once embroidered onto clothing as a much smaller design. Be bold!
  1. Have the logo reflect your style of business. Are you fun and informal, or do you want to portray a more professional and businesslike image?
  1. Be original. Don’t use the first image you find online as everyone else has probably used it a million times before.

Where can I design a free logo online?

Canva is my go-to for all my DIY designs and not just for logos.

Canva is great for all designing and editing all your social media posts and videos. They have templates for everything making posting updates super fast.

What about AI for logo design?

Lately I’ve been experimenting with midjourney. Midjourney takes some getting used to but once you’re all set up you can use it to design anything. It works by you inputting a prompt describing the type of image or logo you want, and then it uses AI to provide the graphic for you.

One thing to bear in mind about Midjourney is that it doesn’t do text very well, so use it to design the graphic part and add the text afterwards using design software or Canva.

Using AI to build a logo using prompts is a viable option for businesses looking to create a logo quickly and affordably. AI-powered logo generators use machine learning algorithms to create logos based on prompts and keywords provided by the user.

Here are some benefits of using an AI-powered logo generator:

  1. Speed: AI-powered logo generators can create a logo within minutes, significantly reducing the time it takes to create a logo compared to working with a human designer.
  2. Cost-effectiveness: AI-powered logo generators are generally more affordable than hiring a human designer.
  3. Customizability: Most AI-powered logo generators offer some level of customization, allowing businesses to tailor the design to their brand and preferences.
  4. Exploration: AI-powered logo generators can help businesses explore different design options and concepts they may not have considered before.

However, there are also some limitations and considerations to keep in mind when using an AI-powered logo generator:

  1. Limited creativity: While AI-powered logo generators can generate a variety of design options, they are limited by their programming and may not be as creative as a human designer.
  2. Lack of personal touch: An AI-generated logo may lack the personal touch and attention to detail that a human designer can provide.
  3. Risk of similarity: AI-powered logo generators can generate similar designs for different businesses, resulting in a lack of uniqueness.
  4. Limited customizability: While most AI-powered logo generators offer some level of customization, they may not be able to meet all of a business’s specific design needs and preferences.

Example Midjourney prompts for logos for pet businesses

“Create a logo for a dog grooming service that features a friendly, happy dog with a clean and modern look. Incorporate the company name ‘Paws & Pamper’ and use a color scheme that includes shades of blue and green.”

“Design a logo for a boutique that sells high-end cat products. Incorporate the company name ‘Purrfect Paws’ and use a color scheme that includes shades of purple and gold. Use a sophisticated and elegant style that appeals to cat owners who are looking for luxury items for their pets. Include a cat silhouette or illustration in the logo design.”

“Create a logo for a dog walking service that is friendly, approachable, and playful. Incorporate the company name ‘Paws on the Go’ and use a color scheme that includes shades of green and blue. Use a simple and modern design that conveys movement and activity. Include an illustration of a dog or a paw print in the logo design.”
